GIU Day 5--Last Day

 It's my last day for the Growing in Unity Week.  This week just flew by.  I hope you have enjoyed my cards as much as I did making them.  

Today I have another Slim line card.  It was inspired by my guy.  He is the best and he is my biggest fan and supporter (maybe even more than my mom! ) 😲  Shh don't tell her!

I did another watercolor card as I am having fun practicing my skills.  This time, I made my background with the Hit the Bricks background stamp.  Heat embossing clear embossing powder over Black Pigment ink.  I only stamped it part at the top and bottom as I knew the middle would be covered.

To color it, I sprayed the whole thing with a ton of water.  Then I added liquid water color to the top in random areas.  I used a red and brown color.  I sprayed it again with water to get the pigments moving and then twisted and turned it.  Then I smooshed it on my glass mat.  I used the left over to smoosh color on the bottom section.  After drying it with my heat tool, I did a bit more smooshing and then set it aside to dry completely.

For my image, I used Forrest Guy and after heat setting the same ink and embossing powder, I painted him in with Aqua Pigments.  Then I fussy cut him out.  Added a bit of the same red and brown to the edges.

I stamped my sentiment with White Pigment ink and covered with white embossing powder on a scrap of black paper. (I find I get a cleaner and bright white look using White ink with white embossing powder.)  Then once everything was dry I attached it all together.

GIU Day 4

 I can't believe it is Day 4 already.  Today I stepped out of my comfort zone to bring you a water colored image.  Water coloring images is one of my goals to get better at and I am feeling a little more confident in it.

I LOVE ANGIE GIRLS.  They are some of my favorite stamps of all time.  Today I featured Hannah!

I stamped her on some watercolor paper and then heat set the image with Clear Embossing ink.  I am most comfortable when I have that "edge" to my images when I watercolor.  I took my time and did a variety of colors (I will list them below).

For the background around her, I flooded the background with water and then just dropped in my color,  letting it flow itself.  Once my panel was dry, I carefully tore around the edges so that I could get that distressed look.  (I debated about adding watercolor to those edges but in the end left them white.--Would you have painted them?)

I used a lot of liquid glue to attach it to my panel.  This panel is just painted with a mix of blue and shimmer paint.  After I added my sentiment, I out on a few gems for some added sparkle and matted it to my card base.

Growing in Unity Day 3

 The week is half over already!  Today for Day 3 if the Growing in Unity Week I am showcasing a Fun Slimline card. 

I started by making two masks for my flower.  Then starting in the center I stamped my flower, masked it.  Then I cleaned my stamp, moved it to another location (and rotated it) then stamped again.  I used my Misti for this as sometimes I needed to stamp twice to get a clean line around the mask.  Once again, I masked the flower, and stamped a third time.   Then I repeated at the top of my panel.

I colored in the images with some Olo markers and then fussy cut around the entire line of Daisies.  Using a Slim line card base (3.5" x 8.5"), I trimmed off one side to about 1/2"  I adhered my fussy cut flowers to the 1/2" flap with both double sided adhesive and liquid glue.  

For my sentiment I stamped one from the set out on white paper, trimmed down and then glued to the bottom third of my front panel.

For some added sparkle, I used my Shimmer pen over the blooms, here you can kind of see the shimmer.

Growing in Unity Day 2

 Welcome back to my blog for Day 2.  Today I have a very colorful card for you today, using just a few items.  Once again I will list below the supplies used (noting affiliate links).  Remember to comment for a chance to win a GC to Unity Stamp Company.

This card started with me ink blending three inks, (all from Simon Hurley Create.) Prom Queen, Bee Sting and Shooting star.  Then using my Misti, I stamped the butterfly image from Your Smile four times using Versafine Nocturn ink and covered the wet in with Fairy Dust Embossing Powder.  After I heat set the butterflies, I pressed my Embossing Ink pad over the entire panel and the heat set some more Fairy Dust Embossing Powder.

For my sentiment, I stamped in the same black ink with Fairy Dust EP on some vellum and cut them out with a circle die.  I attached it with some spray adhesive and than matted the panel on some Black cardstock before attaching it to my A2 card base.

2023 Growing in Unity Girl of the Week Day 1

Good morning and welcome to my blog.  Its been awhile since I have made a post.  This week I am the Unity Girl of the week and will be sharing a project everyday with you.  You have a chance to win a gift certificate to the Unity Stamp Company just by leaving a comment on my blog.  You can increase your chances by commenting everyday.

Today I have a Masculine Mini Slim Card for you.  I love Mini slim cards they are my favorite.  List of supplies with links (affiliates will be noted) are at the bottom of the post.

I started by using some tan cardstock and stamping the feather image in Embossing ink over the entire 3.25" x 6" panel.  I heat set my favorite clear embossing powder and then ink blended over the entire surface with Weeping Willow ink. (I realize that this feather stamp is not available anymore, but since it is just a backdrop.  I listed a few substitutes from the Unity site that could be used instead.  I apologize, I am trying to ink up unused stamps this year.)

Next I stamped the Deer head image with Weeping Willow ink and covered it with clear Embossing powder.  I used Olo Markers to color in the image. I used an older frame die from my stash to cut out the image and attach it to my panel. 

For my sentiment, I went direct to paper with Weeping Willow ink and then stamped and heat embossed this "punny" sentiment.  I did the same technique for the DAD die cut and then attached everything to my Mini Slim card base.

GIU Day 5 May the Joys of the Season by Yours

For my last day as a GIU girl, I had to make a Christmas Card.  Purple is my favorite color so I thought I would just play and see what happened.

I started with a piece of light purple paper from my stash and ink blended on Wilted Violet and Villainous Potion Oxide inks.  Next, I took the snowflakes from the Beauty of Life SMAK (11/19) kit and stamped them in Villainous Potion in a random pattern all over my card front.  Then I covered the snowflakes with Icicle Embossing Ink.  

Because oxide inks take a little bit to dry, the embossing ink stuck not only to the snowflakes but to portions of my panel.  I was okay with that as I heat set it, it made it feel like there was icy or frosty patches on my card.

Here you can see the shine on the snowflakes and on the frosty/icy patches on my card.

Then, I took a star stencil from my stash and in the upper and lower corners, I covered the stencil with Opal Chroma Glaze from Brutus Monroe and set my panel aside to dry.

Next, I took another piece of the light purple cardstock and cut it out with a tag die from my stash.  I  stamped the sentiment from Ember Girl in the Villainous Potion and ink blended the same two purple inks around the edges and once again used the Opal Chroma glaze and star stencil.

Once everything was dry, I cut the panel down with a double stitched rectangle from my stash and added the tag to the front. I chose a purple and white ribbon from my stash, tied them in a knot.  To add the ribbon to my card, I used a glue dot.  Then I attached the panel to my white A2 card base.

GIU Day 4 Celebrate Foil Card

 

For day three I thought I would do some foiling.  I used the Unity/Deco Foil Toner Card Fronts {Wild Garden and used a Red Copic Marker (R37) for the berries and I used C3 and C1 to give some color to the flower centers.  Then Using some Silver Deco Foil and My Solid Hot Plate, I added the shine to my card front.  Next, I ran the panel and a red piece of cardstock through my die cut machine with a stitched rectangle die.

For my sentiment I cut out a piece of vellum and stamped the Celebrate from the Celebrate the New set with some Red Pigment Ink and covered it with Icicle Embossing Powder.  I ran it through my diecut machine with another stitched die.  To attach it to my card, I ran it through my Xyron sticker maker.

I finished off the card by adding everything to a white A2 Card base.  I love that this has a Christmas feel but yet, I can use if for multiple occasions.  Below is one a photo that tries to capture the shine of the foil.

GIU Day 3 Mini Slim Halloween Card

 

For GIU Day 3 I have a Mini Slim Line card for you.  Mini Slims are one of my favorite to create.  I started by stamping the jack-o-lantern image from the Unity Stamp Co. Hallows' Eve Tree all over the front of my 3.5" x 6.25" panel with Black pigment ink.  I covered the Black Pigment Ink with Clear embossing powder to heat set it. 

Next, I used Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide ink over the entire panel, and a little Black Soot Oxide ink over the edges.  Then I took a script stamp from the SMAK Kit Happy Little Moments (July 2015) and stamped it randomly over the entire panel with White Pigment Ink and set it aside for a bit to dry.

While I waited for the White ink to dry and fade back a bit.  I took some Orange Chroma Glaze from Brutus Monroe and spread it on a piece of packaging that I took out of the recycling and set it aside to dry as well.

Once the Chroma glaze was dry (about an hour depending on thickness), I used an older Spellbinders die to cut the pumpkin from it.    Next.  I cut my panel down to about 3" x 6" panel and wrapped a piece of black tulle around the bottom third of my panel using strong double stick tap to secure it to the back.  I took a smaller piece of tulle to tie a knot on the left and a glue dot to attach my pumpkin to the knot.  

Next, I layered the panel on a piece of black cardstock and then lined it up in my Misti to stamp my sentiment; using the same black pigment ink and clear embossing powder as my jack-o-lantern banner.  Finally, I attached the whole thing to my white card base that measures 3.25" x 6.25."

GIU Day 2 Array of Fall Slim Line Card

Today's card is a Slim Line card that features the Array of Fall Stamp set from Unity Stamp Co.  I started by stamping the flower image on both sides of my 8.5" x 3.5" Canson XL Watercolor paper with a black pigment ink.  Because Pigment ink stays wet for awhile, I covered with a clear embossing ink and heat set it.

Next, I sprinkled Sunray Crossette, Solar Flare, and Catherine Wheel Shimmer powders from Nuvo over the front and than sprayed the entire thing with water to get the powders moving.  I continued with the shimmer powders and water until I was happy with the result.  Then I set it aside to dry, (I usually do this overnight).

Once my panel was dry, I cut it down to 8.25" x 3.25" and attached it to a Kraft Slim Line card base (8.5" x 3.5").  For my sentiment I stamp it with the same Pigment ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Using a circle die from my stash to cut it out, I adhered it with liquid glue to the top 1/3 of my card.  To finish it off, I added some black gems scattered across my card.  The shimmer powder is hard to film with a camera, but you can see a hint of it in the photo below.

GIU Week Thanks rainbow card

 

For my first card this week showcasing Unity Stamp Company products, I wanted to go with an almost one layer and a more simpler card.

I started by placing the Allure border background in my Misti and inked up parts of the stamp with Simon Hurley Creates Shooting Star and stamping it down on my white A2 card panel.  Next, I inked up the image with Bee Sting (also by SHC), overlapping some of the yellow areas.  I repeated this with the SHC Clear Skies ink.  By using these three inks, I can create a rainbow on my background.  I like to use Simon Hurley Inks because the blend well and they also stay "wet" long enough for me to cover the entire image with Embossing Powder.  Here, I used Icicle Embossing Powder from Brutus Monroe and heat set it to give my background a shiny finish.

Next, I used some Deco Foil-Unity Adhesive Transfers for my sentiment.  I cut the Thanks from Sentiments 1 and following the packaging instructions adhered that to the center of my panel.  I covered the transfer with some rainbow foil from my stash (a left over piece from another project).  For the sub sentiment, I stamped For All You Do (from my stash) with Raven Detail Ink from Brutus Monroe.

After I cut down my panel to 4" x 5.25," I adhere it to the front of my Black A2 Card base, including a white blank panel on the inside for my message when sending.  To finish off my card, I used some liquid glue to attached a few iridescent gems around my sentiment.

Growing in Unity Blog Hop--Birthday Card

Hello and thank you for stopping by my blog today.  I had the priveledge of being the Unity Girl of the Week for the last week of 2020.  I have one more post tied to this week as I participate in today's Growing In Unity Blog Hop.  I am the first stop along the hop and I have the list below so you can hop along an leave comments.

My card for the hop uses the Smak Kit that I chose for my participation for the week.  I had to get the November 2019 Smak kit for its winter beauty and this big snowflake.  This card is for my mama as her birthday is coming up next month and her favorite color is blue and she loves snowflakes and snowman.  I started by taking the snowflake stamp in my Original Misti and stamped it out with My Favorite Things Nightshift Blue Ink.  I then used a ranger foam dauber and used my finger to apply thermoweb transfer gel to the stamp and applied that right over the blue image.  I set the panel aside to dry for about 20 mins and let my laminator warm up.

Once the gel was dry, I used some Opal Deco Foil and ran my panel through a laminator, twice.  I peeled back the foil and it left just the right amount of shine to the stamped image.  It was not perfect, but that is what I wanted.  Next, I took a blending brush and inked the same Nightshift blue ink the rest of my panel making the edges extra dark.  

I placed my panel in my splat box and splattered on some shimmer spray and some waterdown blue ink.  I used a sentiment from Birthday Go Round with the same ink on some heat resistant vellum from Brutus Monroe and covered the ink with some Pearl Embossing Powder.  After I heat set the powder, I used a circle die to cut it out and attach it to my card panel.  

Before I attached my card panel to my white A2 card base, I used the same simmer spray and a paint brush to cover the edges of my card base.  I used liquid glue to attach my panel to my card and that finishes my card.   I  hope you like my card and Happy Birthday mom!

2020 Growing In Unity Week Post #5

Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2021!  Best of wishes for everyone this year!

For my last post I had to create a Slim Line Card.  I stamped out a variety of Angie Girls with Copic friendly ink and colored them in with a very limited Christmas Color pallet.  Next, I looked through my dies and found a rectangle and rectangle frame set to cut out the images and framed each one with a evergreen die cut frame.  I like how this looked because they look like snapshots and one of the Angie girls is holding a camera, so I imagine this is a fun day with the girls and we are getting three glimpses into their party. (I used girls from Ember Girl, Planner Gal: Merry Doe, Planner Gal Kit: Tell Me A Story.)

Next, I looked through my pile of patterned paper, (we all have a stash we never use right or is it just me?) to find a red plaid paper and cut it down to just shy of 3.5" x 8.5" panel.  I used the camera stamp from Free Your Dream May 2017 Kit of the month with black ink all over the panel, varying the image for interest.  

You know what comes next right, I used the half Doily stamp from the Happy Little Moment Smak Kit (July 2015) at the top and bottom of my panel using the same method as I mention earlier this week.  I used my Misti and a Ranger Blending Tool with a Circle Foam and Deco Foil Transfer Gel as ink on my stamp.  I also did this for the polka dot stamp (used at an angle on the top and bottom of my panel opposite of the doily). (Polka Dot stamp from Love Life As It Is set).

I set my panel aside to dry (about 30 mins or so).  In the meantime, I used the sentiment from Ember Girl with embossing ink on a piece of vellum and then heat set some Black Embossing Powder and cut out the sentiment with a circle die.

Once my background panel was dry, I cover the two doily image with Green Foil and the polkadots wtih Opal Foil (both from Deco Foil/Thermoweb) and then ran it through my laminator twice.  I peeled back the foil and Voila!  I attached my three Angie Girls at angles down my panel and glue the panel down to my white slim line cardbase.  I then affixed my sentiment.  Finally, for some more glitz, I used Diamond Stickles to all the accents on the Angie Girl images.

2020 Growing In Unity Week Post #4

I can't believe the week is almost over (and 2020).  I am going to end 2020 with another card featuring Diana Girl (from the Angie girls by Angie Blom).

I stared by stamping with a black Copic friendly ink and coloring up Diana with Copic Markers in the Red, Blue and Gold theme.  I used a grey marker on the bottom to ground her.  Next, I used my scan and cut to cut her out.  I used a straight blade to carefully cut a slit inside her legs and then my super pointy fussy cutting scissors to finish removing the white uncolored cardstock.

Next taking an A2 white card panel, I used a blue and red ink from my stash to ink blend a very loose background.  I didnt blend the colors together much or concentrate on making a very smooth blend as I was leaving some white to show through and I knew I would be using a background stamp as well.

I lined up my blended card panel and the Hit the Brick background stamp (a Unity Stamp Co and Brutus Monroe Collaboration) in my Mini Misti.  I first stamped the background with some black ink.  Then I wiped of my stamp and using a Ranger blending tool and foam circle, I added Deco Foil Transfergel to the stamp.  I applied the gel to the foam circle with my finger and carefully pounced the stamp over the entire background stamp, adding more transfer gel to the foam as needed.  I stamped the background and when I lifted the Misti lid the panel stuck to my stamp, (this is fine, I ran my fingers over the backside to make sure the transfer gel attached the the panel).  I carefully removed the panel and set it aside to dry. (about 30-60 mins)  Next I took a small paintbrush and carefully brushed the 
parts of my Diana stamp that I wanted to be gold (belt, necklace, tiara, boots, cuffs) and set that aside to dry.  I very quick cleaned my stamp, paintbrush and even my foam circle with some water to remove any leftover transfer gel.

I found a piece of red cardstock from my scratch paper and cut it down to just shy of 4.25" x 5.5" to be a mat for my colored panel.  I used a circle die that would fit around the sentiment from the Diana girl set and cut it out of the center of the red panel.  Using my powder bag to treat the circle, I stamped the sentiment with embossing ink (with the help of my mini Misti) and covered the sentiment in Gilded Embossing Powder from Brutus Monroe.  I set the sentiment wiht my heat tool.

Once my panel and Diana Girl were dry, I covered them with Deco Foil Gold Foil and ran them through my preheated laminator (twice).  I just love the reveal of peeling back the foil to see the final results.

I used liquid glue to attach my sentiment circle and Diana to my Brick Wall background and then that panel to my red mat.  After attaching everything to my card panel, I decided I wanted to enchance the stars on her costume.  I used a star border die from my stash to cut out the stars and attach them to the thigh and breast of Diana (where the black star stamped).  I also added a few of these white star around my sentiment.

Here is a close up of the foil, the picture does not do the shine justice. But oooh and look at the texture on the bricks.

What do you think?  Don't you just love it?  The inspiration for this card is my Aunt who is undergoing Chemotherapy this week. She is a wonderful woman and I admire her so much.  I plan on mailing this card to her right after the new year.

2020 Growing in Unity Post #3

Today's card was a super fun one for me to create.  I started with an A2 white card panel and ink blended on some pink and grey inks.  Next, I took the script stamp from the (be fearless) June 2017 SMAK kit and inked with some Red ink and randomly stamped it over my background.  I also took the doily stamp fromt this kit and stamped it in a couple of place in a grey ink.

The next thing I did, I totally give credit to Whitney for showing this in a live this past week.  I used the hearts from ...don't give up and stamped them in grey ink along the top of my panel.  After cleaning off my stamp, I then using a ranger blending tool with a foam circle, I added Deco Foil Transfer Gel to the stamp in a pouncing motion and stamped it to my card panel.  I cleaned off the stamp well and repeated the process towards the bottom of my panel.  Two tips I have for this, use your finger to spread the Transfer Gel onto the foam circle and make sure you clean your stamps off right away.

I let the panel dry for a few minutes (the transfer gel does not take long for this techinique but the longer you let it set the better the results- I try to wait at least 30 mins).  While my panel was drying I cut out a variety of hearts from vellum and white scraps.  I also created my card base out of white cardstock and cut down a mat from grey card stock.

Next I stamped out the heart from Love Makes the World with Copic friendly Black ink and colored it in with a couple of Pink and Grey markers.  I used my Scan and Cut to cut it out.

Finally my panel was ready for the next step,  I used opal foil from Deco/Thermoweb and ran my panel through my laminator twice.  This was the first time I personally had tried this techinque and I love it so much I have been making many backgrounds with foil, stamps and transfer gel this week.

To complete my card, I glued the panel down to the mat and then to my card base.  I used liquid glue to attached the Copic colored heart image and many of the small die cut hearts.  For some dimension I used some foam squares to attached a few of the hearts.

I really love this techinque and thinkg this card turned out so fun.  I can't wait to send it to someone.

2020 Growing In Unity Week Post #2

For my second Growing in Unity Week post, I focus again on an Angie Blom stamp, but this time I had to include the guys.  I used the Forrest Guy stamp set to create a birthday card for my guy.  His birthday is coming up and I thought this would be a perfect chance to be ahead in my card making for once.  

I started by stamping out "Forrest" in Copic friendly ink on an A2 card panel made from Neenah 110 lb cardstock.  I colored him in with Copic markers.  Next, I cut him down using some rectangle dies from Hero Arts.  I wanted the panel to be smaller so we could see the other panel I made.

My second panel was very fun to make.  I just took a green piece of cardstock from my scrap bin and cut it down to A2 card panel size.  I used the Vintage Burlap Background stamp in my Misit with Embossing Ink.  Next I usedBrutus Monroe Raven Sparkle Embossing Powder in a couple of spots on my background and carefully flipped over my panel to "throw" off the extra powder onto a scrap sheet of copy paper.  I did this careful "throw" technique because I wanted to used a second embossing powder on the rest of the background.  I chose a clear powder from Brutus Monore and followed the same steps as above.  Then I used my heat tool to set both embossing powders.  I like the two tone look that the embossing powders givee my background. (In hindsight, I would do the clear first and then the black, as there is always some leftover and I do not want to contaminate or waste any embossing powder.)

Here is a close up of the two different embossing powders.  The Raven Sparkle has a little glitter in it which is why its one of my favorite black Embossing Powders.

I also used the same ink and Raven Sparkle Embossing Powder for my sentiment on another piece of the same green cardstock and attached it to the front of my colored panel.

I glued both the background and colored panel down on an A2 Black Card Base.  For the inside of my card I messily stamped the same Vintage Burlap stamp in the corner of a white card panel with a light green ink and a sentiment for my honey with black ink.

2020 Growing in Unity Post #1

Happy Monday!  We have made it to the last week of the year.  I was lucky enough to be chosen to be the Growing in Unity Girl of the week.  I will be posting a project every day this week (M-F) using different Unity Stamp Company products.  Make sure to stop back every day and comment for a chance to win one of two prizes from Unity Stamp Co

I first heard of Unity during one of Angela and Whitney's lives on Facebook.  I thought they were so fun and engaging.  I then met them when I took a class at Junkiefest in 2019 not knowing that they were a company located in my home state of Minnesota.  I fell in love with their Angie Girl stamps and the obsession began.  Over the past two years, I have grown my Unity stamp collection which is primarily made up of  the faceless girls and background stamps.

Today's card is a very simple one that was inspired by my daughter, who lives over 1,000 miles away from me. The stamp I featured is the Wear Confidence stamp set by Angie Blom.  I started by stamping out our girl on some white cardstock with a Copic friendly ink and then colored her in with some teal as that is my daughters favorite color.  She has beautiful long brown hair that I also included in my coloring.  I fussy cut her out and then started on the rest of my card.

I decided to make a mini slim card.  I took a Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb cardstock, cut down to  7x6 inches and scored at 3.5 inches to make a 3.5x6" card Portrait card base.  I cut another piece of white cardstock down to 3.5x6" and used an oval die from my stash to cut out a window in the panel.  Then I ran the panel through my Big Shot using the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  (The panel is a little long, so I flipped it around and ran it partially through my machine again to finish the pattern, keeping just a very small space that did not emboss all the way.)

I used some Guppy Ink from Simon Hurley Creates and a blending brush to ink my card base just were it would show through the window.  I used a thank you sentiment (with a teal ink) from Brian guy in the small unembossed area on my Swiss Dot panel. If any dots where there, I used my bone folder to press them down and make the area smooth.  Next I glued the panel to my card base.  I used liquid glue to the back of my Copic colored girl and used my tweezers to slip it behind my embossed panel.  I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set inside my card in the same teal ink I used on the front of the card.

Finally, I added some clear wink of stella to the corset top and center of the yellow flowers of my colored image to give a little sparkle. This card fits in a standard letter envelope, which is one of the reasons I really like the mini slim size.

I love this card and it just reminds me so much of my girl.  I love how she is not afraid to wear what she wants and do her makeup as her mood fits her.  She has a saying she used in high school show choir and dance; "fake it to you make it!" and I think this saying just fits so well with that.  Be confident. no matter what you are wearing.  If you like it, then go for it.  I wish all of our young ladies and little girls could just have that embedded in their heads.
